Nuchal Translucency Screening
- Nuchal Translucency Screening
It is a type of ultrasound test, which check the area at the back of the neck of the fetal for thickening or fluids to avoid abnormalities. If used during an early prenancy the test can detect birth defects in the foetus.
The test is many times combined with maternal blood testing of two substances: pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) and free-beta human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Both found in pregnant women and their levels above and below the normal level can indicated fetal abnormalities.
If used effectively during the pregnancy than it can detect birth defects like Down’s syndrome, trisomy 18, or a heart problem. More accurate diagnosis and ultrasounds are done if the test results are not normal. - Blood Pressure:
