Even though symptoms of prgnancy can be isolated, it is advisable to perform certain tests to ascertain the pregnancy. Tests are also done to minimize chances of any complications that might arise in the pregnancy or during childbirth.
Home Pregnancy Tests [HPT]
There are many Home prenancy test kits available in the market these days to confirm the pregnancy. They test the blood or urine of the female for a particular hormone known as human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) or the pregnancy hormone. This hormone is produced in a female’s body when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. This phenomenon normally takes 6 to 15 days to occur. The production of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) hormone also increases as the prenancy advances.
Home pregnancy tests are easy to administer, non messy and private. Such kits are available at a reasonable price (affordable or cheaply available) in the market without a prescription. These kits test the urine for the hCG hormone and detect the prenancy. Some kits are accurate whereas some can give false results. Usually the first urine of the day is used to test the pregnancy as it might contain more of hCG. One must not rely on the kit completely to ascertain the prenancy. If there are reasons that the chances of being pregnant are high, whereas the home prenancy tests shows negative then one should immediately consult the doctor. It is also advisable to have the pregnancy confirmed by the doctor through blood tests done in a laboratory.
